Recipe of Speedy Caramel apples

We're making homemade caramel apples with caramel cooked completely from scratch on the stove. No store-bought caramel candies or coatings because you can truly taste the difference between that.

1. Get 16 Large red and green apples
2. Prepare 2 bags caramel squares
3. Prepare 4 Tbsp. Water

Instructions to make Caramel apples:

1. In a medium greased pot heat to med-low heat on stove top. Add in caramel squares and water and stir until caramel is melted and smooth. Add food coloring and incorporate.
2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Spray with cooking spray.
3. Stick in twigs at tops of each apple. Dip in caramel coating completely using a spoon if necessary. Twirl to coat completely. Let caramel dip off and then tip over stick side down an out 20 sec. to let caramel set. Place on parchment paper.
4. Let cool and serve.

Caramel apples are one of those things that are as much fun to make as they are to eat! I made this batch with my goddaughter Piper with apples she had picked at a nearby orchard. Caramel apples are taken down a rocky road by rolling in marshmallows and pecans. I typically use Granny Smith apples, but you can use other varieties if you prefer such as Fuji, Braeburn, Gala or Pink Lady. I like to use candy melts instead of chocolate chips.
